Steve,

This sounds very interesting.

Gear6’s enhanced Memcached distro makes sites faster, ensures uptime, is easier to manage and has a much lower TCO than DIY Memcached.

Available as software, a turn-key appliance or as a cloud service. Our mission-critical Memcached distro offers blazing speed, massive scale, and more cache for less dough.

I suppose I'll have to test Gear6 out.

Thanks for the recommendation.

-- Edit --

Now I see what you mean about biggish/commercial sites using Gear6. When I saw the "Solutions start at under $10,000", it became clear that it's not quite for me yet. :) I'll keep it in mind as a solution for my web applications at work that can get pretty overloaded though, so thanks again.

If your site stays smallish, you'll be fine. But your data center expenses will hockey stick if you get biggish. That's why a lot of commercial sites (like mine) turn to solutions like Gear6's - check it out.
